How do I delete a verified credential from my Vault?

Why a verified ID has no delete button in your Vault, and what you can do instead.

Written by Toon

Documents you add yourself can usually be removed from your Vault. A verified government ID (such as a passport, driver licence or national ID) is handled differently, so you will not find a Remove or Archive button on it.

What you can do

  • Replace it with a newer ID. Add the new ID of the same country and type through the normal add-document flow. If the details are different, the app asks "Replace Document: Document already exists. Do you want to replace it?" Tap OK. Your older ID is archived, not deleted. It stays in your Vault with an "Archived" stamp and no verified badge.

  • Adding the same ID again will not work. If every detail is identical, the app says "Document already exists with same values". The name and date of birth on the new ID must also match your identity.

  • Other verified documents (for example a membership card in the Other category) can be removed or archived. Tap the document card on Home, then use Remove or Archive at the bottom of the screen. Remove asks "Remove from vault?" and deletes the document from your phone. Archive keeps it with an "Archived" stamp.

  • Failed or revoked documents show a Remove button on the Home screen.

If you want everything gone

You can remove your account from Settings > Remove account, which clears the Vault, including your ID, from your phone. To close your account permanently, use Settings > Delete account and confirm by email (the link expires after 24 hours). Both remove all your documents, not just one ID.

Before you remove the app or your account

Your Vault is stored on your own phone, so deleting the app or removing your account also clears it. Your recovery phrase restores your account, but not your documents. To get documents back you need a vault backup: either a backup file (Settings > Back up Vault) or Cloud Vault sync (iCloud or Google Drive) if you turned it on. When you log back in with your recovery phrase, the app offers to restore from the backup.

Note that restoring an older backup can bring back an ID you removed or replaced after that backup was made. Without a backup, you would need to add your documents and complete the ID check again.
